Das Projekt was a German duo formed by Alexander Kaschte and Markus Staab in 1989. Kaschte had previously been part of Die Krupps. Their first album, simply called "Das Projekt," came out in 1990 and established their atmospheric, introspective sound.
One of their best-known tracks is "Ghost Riders in the Sky," a 1995 single that reworked the traditional Western song into a goth-industrial piece with ethereal synths and Kaschte's haunting vocals. Other songs like "Unknown Pleasures" and "Adrianne Dances" continued in that vein, blending gothic influences with industrial dance rhythms.
They released several albums through the 1990s, including "Ghosthunting" in 1992, "Ritual" in 1994, and "Nocturne" in 1996. Their music often dealt with themes of isolation and darker human experiences, which sometimes drew criticism, though the duo maintained they were exploring complexity rather than promoting nihilism.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
