Dave Navarro started playing guitar in Santa Monica, California, and co-founded Jane's Addiction with Perry Farrell in 1985. Their debut album 'Nothing's Shocking' came out in 1988 and established their raw, experimental sound. He left the band in 1998 after struggles with substance abuse, including a 1993 heroin possession arrest.
In 1999, Navarro joined the Red Hot Chili Peppers as their guitarist, playing on albums like 'Californication' and 'By the Way' before departing in 2009. He also released solo material, including the 2001 album 'Trust No One' which featured songs like 'Avoiding the Angel' and 'Slow Motion Sickness'.
His guitar work blends heavy metal and psychedelic influences, heard in tracks ranging from Jane's Addiction's 'Venus In Furs' to his own 'Mourning Son'. Navarro has been open about his addiction experiences while continuing to record and perform.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
