Davi Shamá formed his band in 2016 in Recife, Brazil, with guitarist Igor Moura and bassist Rafael Simões. Their debut single "Chegou Bem?" caught on quickly, mixing Brazilian popular music with reggae and hip-hop influences. The song set a pattern for their early work, which often carried a socially conscious edge.
Their first album, "TUDO BEM?", came out in 2018. Later releases like "SACANAGEM?" in 2020 and "MUNDO NOVO" in 2022 continued to blend those styles. Songs like "Descansa em Mim" and "Te Amar Deixa Tudo Mais Bonito" show the band's range, moving between lighter pop melodies and more pointed lyrical themes.
Shamá's lyrics have touched on topics like police brutality and LGBTQ+ rights, which has drawn both support and criticism. The band has faced online harassment and threats at times, but they've kept making music that reflects their perspective. Their sound remains rooted in those Recife rhythms, even as it has evolved across their albums.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
