David Avidan was an Israeli poet and songwriter born in Tel Aviv in 1934. He wrote the lyrics to 'Scarborough Fair,' a haunting ballad based on a traditional English folk song. The song became widely known through various covers, though Avidan's own recording career was relatively limited.
He released his debut album 'All the Time I Have,' which included his version of 'Scarborough Fair.' For a brief period, he worked with guitarist Arik Einstein and bassist Shmulik Bilu in a band called Arik and the Outsiders. Avidan died in 1995.
