Stardust

It takes some time to realise

The traps you lay are not exclusive to your enemies

You can’t control where people go

Inside, a table stretches into the horizon

Where a family sits in silence

As if it doesn’t matter now

Inside the walls they’re sat waiting in front of piles of stardust

Bodies made of stardust

And all the eyes are on me

I hear a voice of lost patience

Tearing all the gleam away

I’ll end my days in stardust

If I don’t learn from their mistakes

I step onto the stage

You take my hand and ask me not to change

You said I’m afraid of what they’ll take

And every night it ends

I’m waking up at home

But there’s salvation in the stardom

Or my mind has grown a conscience of its own

When we’re lonely we can always dim the lights

Paint a new disguise and close our eyes

And there it disappears

Inside the walls I keep a journal to remind me of my fears

My ball and chain

There is life inside

But nowhere to begin

I let it out to let the stardust in

What a time to be alive

Find the thing you love and let it crush the ones you love

At least the end is not your burden

You’ll never see how much it hurts

I’m leaning in to see myself

How did I get here?

What could make me lose my focus?

My mirror image walks away

But every night I recreate

The silence in the stardust

I give my family stardust

But this is getting harder

Either its fame or it’s failure

And a longing to escape

I’ll end my days a godess

Or a cautionary tale

It’s running from your life

Compassion’s not enough to steer me right

If they don’t understand what hides inside

And every night it ends
