Dayang Nurfaizah was born in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan in 1984. She first gained attention in 2001 by winning the first season of the reality singing competition 'Akademi Fantasia.' Her debut album came out the following year, featuring the single 'Di Pintu Syurga' which became widely known.
Her career included some public controversies, like a 2008 awards ceremony performance that drew criticism for its style. In 2014, she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and took time away from music for treatment before returning to performing.
