For a sense of their sound, try "De schuyt" or "5 Uur." They're straightforward, lived-in songs that feel like Amsterdam.
They had a breakthrough with the single "Bloem" in 1985, and songs like "De schuyt" and "Mag het licht uit" became familiar to Dutch listeners. Their track "5 Uur," from the 1992 album "Niemand in de stad," is one of their better-known pieces. Some of their songs, like "Als het dondert en het bliksemt," touched on political themes.
De Dijk formed in Amsterdam in 1981, with a lineup that stayed mostly steady over time. They released albums such as "Wakker in een vreemde wereld" from 1987, "Niemand in de stad" from 1991, and "Groen" from 2008.
