Mijn grootvaders klok was wel honderd jaar oud,
fijn en kunstig gemaakt i 't Zwarte Woud.
Elk uur van de dag zei een koekoek goedendag,
deed zijn deurtje even open en weer toe.
Maar op zekere keer tikte grootva's klok niet meer
en men zei: "'t is voorbij, 't is gedaan."
Maar opeens toen begon de klok te slaan
en sindsdien is ze weer blijven gaan.
En ze tikte maar altijd voort,
langzaam en onverstoord.
Maar opeens toen was het voor goed gedaan
en is grootvaders klok blijven staan.
Mijn teenagerklok was maar zestien jaar oud
en haat beat rolde door het ganse land.
In een knip en een wip werd dat nieuwe lied een hit,
men zong het zelfs aan het Noordzeestrand.
En zo klonk overal, van het bad tot in de hal,
't melodietje dat uit dat kastje kwam.
M'n vader werd kwaad, voegde bij het woord de daad
en toen lag de klok op de straat.
En ze tikte maar altijd voort,
langzaam en ongestoord.
En toen plots was de plaat gedaan
en begon ze weer van voor af aan.
