de vrouwen die gaan winkelen of schrobben aan hun vloeren;
ze zeggen dat ik gek ben,
dat mijn hoofd niet denken kan.
Mijn hoofd is slechts het hoofd van een gelukkig man...
Het koele water schijnt mij
steeds weer zachter toe.
Ik ga een beetje zitten want ik voel me wel wat moe.
De stille vissen glijden zachtjes langs mijn hart.
Mijn hoofd is als een vogel met de wind verward...
De mensen in het dorp, die kunnen maar niet vatten,
dat loze wind mij beter past dan brandhout hakken.
Ze zeggen: "zie hemlopen met die vreemd-idiote grijns!.."
Ik grijns niet maar ik glimlach om mijn vredig gepeins...
Het koele water vlijt zich dicht tegen mij aan.
Geen mens die me weerhoudt, geen mens meer om het af te slaan.
Ik lig gewoon wat neer met bei' mijn ogen moe.
De vogels en de vissen zijn aan minnen toe...
De mensen in het dorp, of zij het niet geloofden,
ze komen naar mij zien en schudden met hun zware hoofden.
Ze zeggen: "Zie hem liggen... nou heeft ie zich verzopen!
Ik glimlach, want er ligt een paradijs hier voor mij open...
