Dead Meadow started in Washington, D.C. in 2000 with Jason Simon on vocals and guitar, Steve Kille on bass, and Mark Laughlin on drums. Their first album, "Shivering King and Others," came out in 2002 and got them noticed for its heavy, psychedelic sound. Songs like "Seven Seers" and "Between Me And The Ground" showed their mix of reverb-heavy guitars and slow, hypnotic rhythms.
They kept putting out records through the 2000s and 2010s, including "Howls from the Hills" in 2005 and "Feathers" in 2010. The band toured a lot, though they ran into some trouble in Japan in 2008. Their lineup changed over time, with Juan Londono eventually taking over on drums.
Dead Meadow's later albums like "The Nothing They Need" and "Totally Clear" kept exploring that hazy, heavy rock space. Tracks such as "Beyond the Fields We Know" and "Good Moanin" have that same drifting quality they've always had, with Simon's vocals floating over thick guitar layers.
