Dead Milkmen

The Dead Milkmen formed in Philadelphia in 1983, playing a kind of punk that leaned heavily on absurd humor and catchy, simple melodies. Their debut album 'Big Lizard in My Backyard' came out in 1985 and included the track 'Big Lizard,' which gives a good sense of their off-kilter style. They were known for songs with long, ridiculous titles like '(Theme From) Blood Orgy Of The Atomic Fern.'

The band's lineup included Joe Jack Talcum, Dean Clean, Dave Blood, and Rodney Anonymous. Their sound pulled from straightforward punk but was often defined by its lyrical content more than musical innovation. They covered the Misfits' '20 Eyes' and had other songs like 'Air Crash Museum' that stuck to their established formula of quirky storytelling over basic guitar chords.

While they developed a cult following, their career wasn't marked by dramatic shifts in sound or major commercial breakthroughs. They put out albums like 'Dairy Products' and 'Smokin' Banana Peels' through the late '80s and early '90s. The music held to their initial approach, irreverent, funny, and unpolished.
