Dead On came out of Los Angeles in the early 1990s. Their debut album 'Summon the Hordes' arrived in 1995 with the single 'Beat a Dead Horse,' which got regular play on rock radio at the time. The band's sound had a rough edge, pulling from punk and metal, but with lyrics that weren't just shouting.

They ran into some trouble later in the decade. A few original members left, including frontman Matt Freeman, and the group went on an indefinite hiatus in 2002. Dead On got back together with the original lineup in 2014 for some shows and put out a new album called 'The Dead Live On' in 2017.
