Deadsy formed in Los Angeles in 1995 with Elijah Blue on vocals, Renn Hawkey on guitar, Alec P. Empire on bass, Brandon Pertzborn on drums, and Chris Wilson on keyboards. Their name came from a play on 'dead city,' which fit their interest in the darker corners of LA. They put out their first album, 'Commencement,' in 1999.
Their sound mixed industrial, metal, and electronica into something that felt both heavy and synthetic. They were known for theatrical live shows with elaborate costumes, and songs like 'Paint It Black' and 'Babes In Abyss' carried a dark, provocative edge. A second album, 'The Key to Gramercy Park,' followed in 2002.
Deadsy's cover of the Rolling Stones' 'Paint It Black' became one of their most recognizable tracks. They also recorded songs like 'Carrying Over' and 'Anti-Pop,' which kept that same industrial-rock atmosphere without settling into one genre.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
