Deaf Pedestrians formed in 2009 in Los Angeles with Brian Gardner on vocals and guitar, Ray Martin on drums, Tamara Lindeman on vocals and bass, and Nick Corbo on guitar and vocals. Gardner and Lindeman, who are both deaf, met at a school for the deaf. Their debut album came out in 2012, followed by 'Deaf Pedestrians II' in 2015 and 'Enemies' in 2018.
Their song '15 Beers Ago' was the lead single from that first album. Other tracks like 'Empty' and 'Listen Up' show the band's mix of indie rock with folk and psychedelic touches. Their music has appeared on shows like 'Shameless' and 'Orange Is the New Black'.
Gardner writes most of the material, using visual cues to work with the band since he can't hear the music. Lindeman contributes lyrics and communicates through sign language. They've built their sound around these practical adaptations rather than treating their deafness as a dramatic story.
