Declínio started as a trio in the early 2000s, with Felipe Grilo on vocals and guitar, Rafael Pimenta on bass, and Ricardo Oliveira on drums. They came together after a previous punk band fell apart, drawn to darker, atmospheric sounds that leaned into post-punk and gothic rock. Their debut album 'Sombras' came out in 2006, and it included the song 'Gabriela', which caught on quickly and helped push them into a wider spotlight in Brazil.
That track, along with others like 'La Rivière' and 'Será', built a following that appreciated the band's moody, sometimes unsettling style. Their music often drew criticism from conservative circles, who saw their themes as too bleak or nihilistic, and some performances faced protests. Declínio kept putting out albums anyway, including 'Sinto Muito' in 2009, 'Tempestade' in 2013, and 'Abismo' later on.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
