Those Once Revered

Dash this frail and pallid form to death upon a rock. Discard me to the ocean depths. My desire to live is lost. My mind and body corrupt with every sleepless night but nevermore can I endure a single moment's respite.

The only sleep I do not dread is that, into which, my mind collapses and brings with it an end to my unrelenting suffering. In death am I absolved? Endlessly I'm tormented but when my consciousness is destroyed and my body putrefies; those scenes that visited me whilst in slumber can no longer linger in this existence…

I stood in a desolate pit facing a decaying wall. A rupture in the cratered rock had formed an obscure door. I entered into the breach, descended the subsequent stair. It seemed a dormant church had long resided there. A morbid stale aura emanated from that place. I gathered up my courage and pried the filthy gate. I should have never crossed that threshold.

I smelt the contents of that vault but naught could I see. I pressed my foot onto the floor of that sunken ossuary. There rose a sudden intense flame and it revealed to me the most horrible sight one could ever behold. All across the altar was strewn the heads of all those I'd ever known; loved; held; revered.
