Délcio Nháutha

Délcio Nháutha came up in the streets of Maputo after growing up in Marracuene. His first album, 'Acrescenta Sal,' came out in 2005, and its title track became a kind of standard in Mozambique. The song has a way of sitting with the bittersweet parts of life without making too much of a show about it.

He works with a band that includes Ernesto Manhique on bass, Fernando Langa on drums, and Jorge Silva on keyboards. They've put out a handful of albums since that first one, like 'Meus Pensamentos' in 2008 and 'Nkwenda' in 2012. Another track people know is 'Moçambique Parem Com Matança,' which carries some weight in its own right.

Nháutha has played with Stewart Sukuma, Gilberto Gil, and Maria Bethânia at different points. His writing tends to leave room for interpretation, which might be why his music has traveled as far as it has.
