Delegata came out of Rio de Janeiro in the early 1990s, part of that city's funk scene. Their song 'Delegata É Bom Falar Pra Elas' caught on and became a kind of anthem for them. The group was led by vocalist Marcos Vinícius, who some called Chumbadinho.
Their lyrics and performances sometimes drew criticism for being too explicit. The band responded by saying they were just reflecting life in Rio's favelas. They kept making music through the 1990s, putting out albums like 'Delegata Chegou Pra Balançar' in 1993 and 'Delegata Sem Limites' in 1995.
Other members included Anderson Neves on bass, Jocimar Silva on drums, Rodrigo Oliveira on keyboards, and Alexandre dos Santos on guitar. Their sound helped shape what came after in Brazilian funk.
