Delein MC formed in Salvador, Brazil in the early 2000s as a trio of brothers named DaLua, Dodo, and Pedro. They started playing rap at local clubs and underground events, working outside the commercial music industry that was dominant at the time.
In 2014 they released an album called "Expressão da Mente," which included the song of the same name. That track and others like "Relatos" and "Revolta Social" dealt with social issues through straightforward rap storytelling. The album brought them more attention within Brazilian hip-hop.
Some of their lyrics addressed topics like racism and police brutality. In 2016 a song called "Eterno Retorno" drew criticism from authorities for its commentary on law enforcement tactics.
