Demarco Flamenco formed in Seville in the early 2000s around vocalist José María Ruiz Perdigones, who goes by the name Demarco. He started the band with his brother Pepe Ruiz Perdigones and their friend Manuel Lombo. Their first album came out in 2008, called "Como Te Imaginé" after the song that became their breakthrough track.
That song, "Como Te Imagine," along with others like "Alegría" and "Pa Ti Pa Mí Na Má," helped them find an audience beyond traditional flamenco circles. They mixed flamenco with rock and pop elements, which didn't sit well with some purists but drew in listeners who liked the blend.
Demarco Flamenco kept making music that walked that line between tradition and something newer. The pushback from certain corners of the flamenco world was just part of how people responded to what they were doing.
