Archive material and source history

Demolition Hammer formed in New York City around 1987, with Steve Reynolds on guitar, James Reilly on drums, and John Gallagher handling vocals. Their first album, 'Epidemic of Violence,' came out in 1988 and got some attention for its graphic cover art showing a human autopsy. The music was raw and heavy, with songs like 'Human Dissection' and '.44 Calibre Brain Surgery' setting the tone.

They followed up with 'Tortured Existence' in 1990, which had a bit more polish but kept the same aggressive approach. A re-recorded version of their debut came out in 1991, and then 'Time Bomb' in 1992, which tried some different things by mixing thrash and death metal elements. The lineup stayed pretty steady through those years.

Their sound was built on fast, technical riffs from Reynolds, Reilly's pounding drums, and Gallagher's guttural vocals. Tracks like 'Pyroclastic Annihilation' show how they pushed the intensity without losing the structure. They were part of that late '80s, early '90s wave of extreme metal coming out of New York.
