Archive material and source history

Dennis DeYoung was born in Chicago in 1947 and joined the rock band Styx in 1970. He became their primary vocalist and wrote some of their biggest songs, including 'Lady' and 'Come Sail Away.' His voice and songwriting helped define the band's sound through the 1970s and early 1980s.

In 1979, DeYoung released his solo album 'Desert Moon,' which featured the ballad 'Babe.' That song reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100. He continued to work with Styx through albums like 'Paradise Theatre' and 'Kilroy Was Here' before creative differences led to his departure from the band in 1999.

After leaving Styx, DeYoung kept performing as a solo artist. He recorded songs like 'Desert Moon' and 'Best Of Times,' maintaining a connection with the melodic rock style he helped popularize. His work with Styx and his solo material have remained part of classic rock radio playlists for decades.
