Dent May & His Magnificent Ukulele released their debut album 'The Good Ship Santa Maria' in 2007. Their second album came out in 2009, titled '26 Miles (Santa Catalina)' after one of their songs. That track, along with others like 'I'm An Alcoholic' and 'College Town Boy', became part of their catalog.
May started writing songs inspired by Santa Catalina Island, where he was living. He formed the band around 2005 with musicians including bassist Chris May, percussionist Aaron Redner, and ukulele player Ben Jaffe. Their sound centered on May's vocals and the ukulele, giving them a particular texture.
They've played at places like the Lincoln Center and the Sydney Opera House. In 2012, May dealt with a legal issue over using his own name in his music, which he eventually resolved.
