Descartes

Descartes formed in Madrid in the late 1980s with Javier Bardem on vocals, José Antonio Abellán on guitar, Manuel Marinelli on bass and keyboards, and Miguel Ángel Gómez on drums. They played shows around the city for a few years before releasing their debut album, '¡Adiós, Amigos!', in 1992. The title track from that record became a hit in Spain.

Their music mixed rock and pop with some Spanish folk touches. Abellán wrote most of the songs, which often had a poetic, introspective quality. After the first album, Marinelli and Gómez left the band. Bardem and Abellán kept working together and put out several more records through the 1990s and early 2000s, including 'Trenes de Larga Distancia' in 1994 and 'El Mundo Se Acaba' in 1996.

Some of their other songs include 'Análise Poética', 'Até Quando?', and 'Canção do Delírio'. They never matched the commercial success of '¡Adiós, Amigos!' but remained active in the Spanish rock scene for over a decade.
