Archive material and source history
Descokados formed in Havana, Cuba, with Mario "Mayito" Rodríguez on vocals, Alain "El Chino" Lázaro on guitar, Roldan "El Pulga" González on bass, and Ernesto "El Flaco" Barreto on drums. They left Cuba for Miami in the early 1990s. Their 1995 debut album "Somos Descokados" gave them a foothold in Latin American music.
Their songs often dealt with political and social themes, which sometimes drew criticism. They worked with Celia Cruz and Willie Colón at different points. Later albums included "La Verdad" and "El Poder del Pueblo."
