Descontrole formed in São Paulo in 1996, with Leandro Lopes on vocals, Ricardo Pontes on guitar, Maurício Dotta on bass, and Rogério Bastos on drums. They started playing heavy metal in small clubs around the city, building a following while dealing with the usual financial struggles of a new band.
Their debut album came out in 2000, simply called "Descontrole." Two years later they released "O Extremo Imperfeito," which included the title track that became one of their best-known songs. That album also contained "O Silêncio" and "Ruinas," tracks that showed their mix of heavy metal and hardcore with lyrics that often dealt with personal and social themes.
They kept recording after that, with songs like "Outra Forma de Viver" and "Quero Você" appearing in their catalog. The band's sound stayed rooted in São Paulo's metal scene, with straightforward arrangements and lyrics that avoided polish in favor of direct expression.
