Archive material and source history

D.I. formed in Brasília in 1980 with vocalist Renato Russo, bassist Negrete, guitarist Cadão Volpato, and drummer Cristiano. They released albums such as "Mais Do Mesmo" in 1983, "Dois" in 1985, and "Vivendo e Aprendendo" in 1987.

Their song "Ao Rei Dos Reis" appeared on the 1987 album "Vivendo e Aprendendo" and became widely known. Other tracks like "(I Hate) Surfin' In H.B.," "Johnny's Got A Problem," and "Richard Hung Himself" show their range from punk energy to darker themes. Renato Russo's lyrics and presence were central to the band's identity.

Renato Russo died in 1996 from complications related to AIDS. After his death, D.I.'s music, particularly songs like "Ao Rei Dos Reis," continued to be heard by new listeners in Brazil.
