Archive material and source history
Di Freitas formed in Rio de Janeiro in 1994 with Leandro Sapucahy on vocals and guitar, André Marinho on lead guitar, Rafael Oliveira on bass, and Márcio Celli on drums. Their self-titled debut album came out in 1998, and the single "Hoje Sou Eu" became a hit across Brazil.
In 2002, Sapucahy was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and had to step away for treatment, putting the band on hold for a time. He recovered and returned to the group. They faced plagiarism accusations in 2007 regarding "Hoje Sou Eu," which they denied and the case was dismissed.
Beyond "Hoje Sou Eu," songs like "Ponto Final" also found an audience. They released several albums, including their debut and O Mundo É.
