Di Jair

Di Jair formed in Rio de Janeiro in the late 1960s, led by vocalist Jair Rodrigues. They played a mix of samba, funk, and soul, with early members including guitarist Jorge Amado, keyboardist Renato Vasconcellos, and drummer Ilmar Nunes. Their debut album 'Deixa Saudade Pra Depois' came out in 1973, giving them a hit with the title track and songs like 'Fiz Pra Te Dar' and 'Na Minha Cama'.

In the 1970s, the band faced some censorship from the government, which saw their music as challenging traditional values. They kept performing and recording through that period, putting out albums such as 'Fogo na Babilônia' in 1976 and 'Samba Rock' in 1978. Their sound stayed rooted in Brazilian rhythms but had a loose, energetic feel that worked well live.

Over time, Di Jair's lineup stayed mostly steady, with Jair Rodrigues at the center. They never became huge international stars, but in Brazil they're remembered for records that hold up as straightforward, danceable samba-rock. Songs like 'Pra Amar' and 'Xote Pra Te Levar' still get played at parties and on oldies stations.
