Dimensión 48 formed in Mexico in the late 1970s, with the Guzmán brothers, Enrique on vocals, Víctor on drums, Alfredo on bass, and Ricardo on guitar, making up the core of the band. Their self-titled debut album came out in 1979 and included the single "Baila," which became a dance-floor staple. They followed it with albums like "Dimension 48" in 1981 and "Baila Baila" in 1986.
Their sound pulled from disco and salsa, and songs like "Agüita de Melón" and "La Cumbia Me Llama" kept people moving. In the early 1980s, they ran into some legal trouble over copyright claims, which slowed their recording for a bit. Their live shows and lyrics also drew criticism from more conservative listeners at the time.
The band broke up in the 1990s but has reunited occasionally since, playing special events and even touring in 2021. "Baila" still turns up at parties, and their other tracks, "El Borrachón," "El Chico," "Mentiroso", have held up as well.
