Dimitri Ehrlich came out of Greenwich Village in the late 1960s, playing guitar and singing in folk clubs. He formed a band in 1970 with bassist Mark Pistone and drummer Bob Ellard. Their self-titled debut album arrived in 1971, and its lead single 'Love Saves the Day' became a hit that seemed to capture something in the air at the time.
That early success was complicated. The band kept putting out records through the decade, including 'Dreamin'' in 1973 and 'Heart of the Matter' in 1975. By the late 1970s, Ehrlich was dealing with personal struggles that eventually led to a hiatus.
