DinUmbra formed in Cluj-Napoca in 1998 as a quartet with Adrian Despot on vocals, Dan Despot on guitar, Răzvan Oprea on bass, and Cristi Nistor on drums. They started playing alternative rock, and their debut album 'Cantecele Mieilor' came out the following year.
Their song 'Catre dincolo' became something of an anthem for them, and they've kept working in that space where rock meets folk and electronic textures. Other tracks like 'Amar' and 'In Taina' show the same mix of raw delivery and poetic lyrics that defined their early sound.
