Archive material and source history
Dío Cabrera began as a duo of childhood friends from Havana, José Antonio Cabrera and Danilo Díaz. They played local parties in Cuba before producer Emilio Estefan Jr. brought them to Miami in the early 1990s to sign with Sony Music. Their debut album was called 'Vuelve'.
The title track 'Vuelve' became their signature song, with a melody and lyrics that connected with listeners. The band's early years were complicated by Cuba's political situation, which made touring difficult. Personal tensions between the members also led to a break in the late 1990s.
