Archive material and source history

Diplopia formed in Porto Alegre in the late 1980s with Rodrigo Suricato on vocals and guitar, Flávio Basso on bass, Jairo Netto on drums, and Luiz Henrique 'Lucão' Martins on keyboards. Their debut album 'Ninguém Sabe' came out in 1991, and the title track became a hit that brought them national attention.

In 1993, Jairo Netto left the band and was replaced by Alexandre Gavin on drums. Two years later, Diplopia got into a legal dispute with Brazilian singer Xuxa over allegations that she had plagiarized their song 'Meu Universo É Você.'

They kept recording through the 1990s, putting out songs like 'Perdoe-me' and 'Por que?' that maintained their melodic pop-rock style. The band's lineup from those early years stayed mostly intact aside from the drummer change.
