Archive material and source history

Disco was a Brazilian synthpop band that formed in the early 1980s. Their song "Vai Rolar" became a hit in 1987 when it appeared on their debut album O Trem Azul. The track's electronic sound and social themes connected with listeners at a time when Brazilian music was mostly dominated by samba and bossa nova.

Alexandre Massau sang and wrote lyrics for the group, with Anderson Noise on guitar, Paulo Schroeber on keyboards, and Mario Fabre on drums. They mixed funk and reggae elements into their synthpop, which drew some criticism from traditionalists who saw it as too commercial. Disco kept recording anyway, putting out albums like Noite dos Mascarados in 1989 and Estilhaços in 1991.

By the mid-1990s they had released Músicas Para Churrascos, and later returned with Por Onde Andei in 2002. Their music stayed in rotation on Brazilian radio, especially "Vai Rolar," which remained a touchstone for listeners who came of age during that period.
