Distain formed in France during the early 1990s, around the time gothic rock was gaining some ground there. Their first album, 'Scream,' came out in 1994. The band's lineup included Olivier Goyet on vocals and guitars, Claude Murat on guitars, Francis Goré on bass, and Stéphane Legeay on drums.
They're best known for the song 'Mandragore,' which has a dark, atmospheric quality that became something of a calling card for them. The band released several albums after their debut, including 'Unendliche Reise' in 1996 and 'De Profundis' in 1999.
At times, Distain faced accusations of sounding too much like other bands, and their lyrics about dark themes drew some criticism.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
