Distortion formed in Birmingham in 1994, with Chris Urban on vocals and guitar, Jack Richards on bass, and Ian "Snake" Smith on drums. They self-released their debut album "Echoes of Pain" in 1996 after struggling to get label interest. The band's music was often described as abrasive and unconventional, drawing from metal and alternative rock.
Their 1998 album "Dust N' Stones" included the title track that became a breakout single. They released four studio albums total, with "Scars of Defiance" in 2002 and "The Last Stand" in 2005. Guitarist James "Riot" Kendall joined the lineup at some point after the band's formation.
The band was active until 2007, when they disbanded. Songs like "Perception" and "Dust N' Stones" remain among their most recognized work.
