Distorment came out of Seattle in the mid-1990s, a four-piece with Ethan Blackwood on vocals, Damien Kane on guitar, Sophia Stone on bass, and Jake Reed on drums. They put out their first album, 'Fury from the Abyss,' independently in 1997. It didn't sell much, but it got some attention for its raw, abrasive sound that mixed punk energy with grunge's darker moods.
Things shifted with their second album, 'Requiem for the Damned,' in 1999. The single 'Blind Hatred' caught on, with its blistering guitars and Blackwood's venomous lyrics tapping into a wider frustration. That song, along with tracks like 'Force Fed' and 'Sanity Crisis,' pushed them into the alternative rock spotlight and led to heavy touring.
