División Azul

División Azul formed in Madrid in the mid-1990s, taking their name from the Spanish military division that fought with Nazi Germany in World War II. This choice signaled their right-wing politics from the start, which drew immediate criticism from anti-fascist groups and left-wing activists.

Their music was hard rock with Oi! and punk influences, featuring aggressive guitars and politically charged lyrics. They released several albums including 'Primavera' in 1998, 'Justicia' in 2000, 'La Plaza Roja' in 2002, and 'Contra el Mundo' in 2006. Their concerts sometimes faced cancellations or disruptions from protesters.

The band included Sergio Rivas on vocals, Juanjo Sánchez on guitar, Óscar Sánchez on bass, and Pablo Ramiro on drums. They disbanded in 2010 after what the existing history describes as 'numerous run-ins with the authorities and a growing rift within the band.' Rivas later formed another band called Imperio Nuevo.

Their song 'Primavera' became particularly significant, resonating with Spanish nationalists and far-right groups while also reaching listeners who felt marginalized. The track's melody and lyrics made it a touchstone in Spain's ongoing political divisions.
