DJ Pierre

Pierre Richard Maurice Moody, who performs as DJ Pierre, was born in Chicago in 1965. He came up in the city's South Side during the early 1980s, a time when a handful of local DJs were piecing together a new sound from disco, synthesizers, and drum machines. That sound became known as Chicago house.

In 1984, Pierre released a track called "Acid Trax" that used a Roland TB-303 bass synthesizer in a way that hadn't been heard before. The squelching, distorted pattern defined what people started calling acid house. The record became an immediate fixture in Chicago clubs and helped push the local sound outward.

Later, in 1996, he put out "Tapa Na Bunda É Carinho," a track that featured Brazilian singer Simone. It showed a different side of his work, leaning into a more vocal, percussive groove while still holding onto that rhythmic drive.
