DJ Prodígio came out of Rio de Janeiro in the early 1990s, mixing funk and soul with electronic beats. Their 1993 single "Sister Golden Hair" became a dancefloor staple with its dreamy melody and soulful vocals, helping push them to wider attention.
They released albums like "Prodigioso" in 1996 and "A Vida É um Funk" in 1998, working with artists including Carlinhos Brown and Seu Jorge. Other tracks like "Fascinated" and "Have You Ever Seen The Rain" kept their sound in circulation through the late 90s and early 2000s.
The group faced some legal trouble around plagiarism claims in the early 2000s, which led to a break. They came back with a sound that had picked up more jazz and bossa nova touches, keeping a core lineup that included Djavan on vocals and Rogério on guitar.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
