DJ Xtremme D came out of Rio de Janeiro's funk carioca scene. Their track "As Minas Curtem e Bebe" got attention for its heavy bass and became something of an anthem in certain circles.
They started as a group of friends from the Rocinha favela, playing local parties before putting out a debut album called "Bombando Na Rocinha" in 2006. The music drew criticism for explicit lyrics, with some accusing it of objectifying women, while the group argued it reflected realities in their community.
Later albums included "Xtremmemente Sensual" and "A Revolta do Funk." The lineup at one point featured Alex Malheiros on vocals, VinÃcius de Paula on DJ duties, Ricardo Alves on percussion, and Bruno "Bigode" Dias on guitar.
