DJ Yuri Chagas came up in Duque de Caxias, Rio de Janeiro, where he absorbed the local hip-hop and funk sounds. In 2002, he worked with MCs Bruno and Marcio on "Tropa do Robô," which became a breakout track in the funk carioca scene.
He followed that with songs like "Olha Quem Tá Vindo Ali, Tropa do Bx" and "Tal do TBT," and put out albums including "Não Vou Parar de Dançar" in 2003 and "Faz o Robô" in 2006. His group Tropa do Robô features vocalists and instrumentalists who help shape the sound.
Chagas has collaborated with artists like Snoop Dogg, Lil Jon, and Diplo. In 2017, he was arrested over allegations of inciting violence at a concert, though the charges were later dropped. Some of his lyrics have drawn criticism for their content.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
