Dolores 88 formed in São Paulo in 1998 with Marcelo Camelo on vocals, Rodrigo Amarante on guitar, Toni Platão on bass, and André Almeida on drums. Their name came from the television series Twin Peaks. They released their self-titled debut album in 2001, which included the song Vai Ser Minha.
That debut album brought them attention, though some critics claimed Vai Ser Minha resembled an earlier song by another Brazilian artist. The band denied those allegations. They went on to release several more albums including Joana in 2003 and A Procura do Mundo Perdido in 2006.
