Dolores Del Rio formed in Mexico City in 1992, taking their name from the Mexican film actress. The band included vocalist Aranchita Gutiérrez, guitarist Jorge Rincón, bassist Carlos Bernal, and drummer Alfonso Fors. Their music drew from Mexican folk traditions while incorporating contemporary pop and jazz elements.
Rincón wrote much of their material, with lyrics that often explored love and loss. They released albums like "Noches de Bohemia" in 1994 and "Azul" later in the decade. Their song "Ramona" became one of their best-known tracks.
The group collaborated with artists including Mexican singer Chavela Vargas and Brazilian musician Toquinho. Their fusion of styles drew some criticism early on, but they maintained their approach through several releases.
