Dolorian

Dolorian formed in Finland in 1997, with Ari Nieminen on vocals and guitar, Jussi Oksa on bass, and Tuukka Turunen on drums. Their first album, 'When All Golden Birds Are Dead,' came out in 2000. The band's sound sits somewhere in atmospheric doom metal, with songs like 'Blue Unknown' and 'Cold / Colourless' showing their preference for slow, heavy arrangements and moody textures.

Over time, other musicians joined, including guitarist Teemu Kautonen, bassist Antti Rissanen, and drummer Mika Hautamäki. They've put out several albums, including 'Voidwards' in 2004, 'The Pale Highway' in 2011, and 'Heart of the Sun' in 2017. Their lyrics tend to circle themes of loss and emptiness, which fits the slow, deliberate pace of tracks like 'Collapsed' and 'Desolated Colours.'

Dolorian's music doesn't rush. It builds atmosphere through repetition and minimal shifts in tone, creating a space that feels both heavy and strangely weightless. The title track 'Blue Unknown' from their 2006 album is a good example of how they stretch a simple melodic idea into something that lingers.
