Doorbells formed in New York City in the early 2000s around songwriter and vocalist Anya Gold. The original lineup included Ethan James on guitar, Maya Lin on bass, and Ben Cohen on drums. They signed with the independent label Dreamweaver Records and put out their first album, 'Whispers of the Wind,' in 2005.
Their second album, 'Rivers Bend,' came out in 2007. The title track became their most recognizable song. In 2010, they worked with cellist Yo-Yo Ma on the album 'Prelude.'
Maya Lin and Ben Cohen left the group in 2012. The band continued with new members after their departure.
