Dos Virgenes formed in 1997 as a duo of Paola Núñez and Gabriela Domenech. They released four albums between 1998 and 2007, starting with their self-titled debut and including "Adiós" in 2001. That song, a ballad about domestic violence, drew attention for its direct approach to the subject.
Their music mixed Mexican and Latin American rhythms with jazz, rock, and folk elements.
