Dose Brutal came out of São Paulo in the early 1980s with a raw, aggressive hardcore sound. Their lyrics often dealt with social and political issues, which led to some censorship. The band's debut album 'Violência' arrived in 1987, with the title track becoming something of an anthem. Other songs like 'Destino' and 'Humilhados' followed in that confrontational vein.
João Gordo handled vocals with a confrontational stage presence, while Jão played guitar, Marcelo bass, and Paulo drums. They put out more albums like 'Mentiras' in 1990 and a compilation called '20 Anos' in 2007. Their music addressed things like police brutality and working-class struggles.
In 2018, João Gordo was arrested and charged with inciting violence against police officers after a concert statement, though the charges were later dropped. The band maintained their music reflected harsh social realities rather than promoting violence.
