Dosis Punk formed in Lima in 1986 with Diego Bertie on vocals, Pedro Suárez-Vértiz on guitar, Pepe "Pachi" Vásquez on bass, and Ernesto "Tito" Arbulú on drums. They put out three albums between 1987 and 1991: a self-titled debut, then "Violencia," and finally "El Amor es una Ilusión." Their sound pulled from punk and new wave, with some Peruvian folk touches.
Their song "El Tanguito" became a kind of anthem for young people in Peru at the time. The lyrics about a poor kid's struggles and the line "Todos somos iguales" (We are all equal) connected with a generation dealing with unemployment and inequality. Other songs like "1982" and "Anarquista" showed their punk side, while "Alguna Vez" and "Amor Comprado" had more of a melodic, new wave feel.
The band's lyrics sometimes got them in trouble. They wrote about government corruption and human rights abuses, which led to some censorship and pressure from authorities. They called it quits in 1994, and the members went on to other projects.
